Statement of Intent

The concept of my TV show is a comedic spy drama, it will have a serious storyline, however, it will have cliché spy conventions and over the top dramatics. The main spy will be called Jason Rogers, he is serious about his spy profession as his neck is on the line after being ostracized from his former agency for an unknown reason. The character of Jason Rogers is largely based on James Bond and John Wick, the latter’s story is like JR’s and the look is very reminiscent of the former. His partner, Tommy Ketchup, is a fumbling agent sent to protect JR. He creates a juxtaposition of Rogers’ seriousness.  An inspiration for Ketchup’s character is Austen Powers. The Austen Powers franchise is a parody of the James Bond franchise, which fits the juxtaposition I would like Tommy Ketchups' character to be to Rogers’.
The audience I will try to attract with this drama would be 16-25-year-old fun-loving demographic. As an ironic satirical drama with juxtaposing seriousness it has the potential to attract a huge audience due to the core values of ITV2 that it will meet, it will represent strong male roles that will be role models for people.  In addition a stereotypical assisting female role that is a typical convention of an action adventure TV drama.
The plan for airing the show would be to air it on Thursdays at 7pm, this is a prime time to catch the maximum amount of the demographic we want to capture. Thursday evenings people typically stay in as they would plan something for Friday or the weekend, so this would allow more possibility to gain more viewers. The show will air pre-watershed (9pm), as it will be a 12A.
The story will feature a cross between two main locations. A London HQ location for the antagonists, and Greece where the protagonists are. The transitions will be nicely set up between the scenes and music will allows the audience to understand where they are and who they’re watching
My antagonists will wear darker suits to signify their positions to connote that they’re evil in the story. I will create low key lighting that will be present when the antagonists are on screen to signify, they’re the antagonists. The locations for the antagonist will be set in an office building for the opening, the office is used to create an elite separation from the audience, as it disconnects the average person to the elite businessmen allowing the office to give the antagonists negative connotations. This, coupled with the low-key lighting, allows the audience to decipher that they are the antagonists and root against them. For the protagonists, they debut in casual polo t-shirts and shorts, this signifies they’re more relatable, however are privileged. They will have a costume change and enter suits that will be lighter or have a pop or colour to signify they’re the protagonists. Most of their scenes will have higher key lighting to allow the connotations of brighter scenes showing that they’re the protagonists.
The protagonists will be represented as likable for different reasons: Tommy Ketchup will be likable because he is a comic relief character who creates issues in the story, but will surprise the audience occasionally. Jason Rogers will be likable as he will be represented as an unstoppable man who can fight off any situation he gets himself in, this attracts the 16-25 year old audience as hero characters are very popular within that age range.
The editing will give my production a stylization that will give the production a comic book element. I will use adobe After Effects to give each character an intro with their names, this can be used on other things throughout the series, like objects that are crucial and locations. This will be intertextual with the 'Snatch'  opeing titles as they have a freeze frame, zoom, colour change, cartoon stylization and name appears. The stylization will attract the targeted demographic as this comic book editing is popular with that age range and the fun-loving audience. The cross cutting between the locations is a typical editing technique used in action adventure tv dramas that the demographic we are targeting are used to and love, as it creates suspense and tense sections that will gain their attention and attract them to the show.
To show branding across the whole production the ITV2 logo will be watermarked in the top left, it will have semi opacity to allow the audience not to be distracted by it but to still know it is and ITV 2 production.
